Ideas competition for the redefinition of the 21st-century lighthouse as a habitable space, accessible to visitors, where architecture not only emits light but is lived in, explored, and occupied.
LAST LIGHT invites participants to propose a habitable lighthouse that redefines the traditional concept of a lighthouse through contemporary architectural language.
The project is expected to function not as a purely symbolic object but as a habitable spatial experience, explored and perceived through movement, light, and time.
The lighthouse must integrate an observation space or lookout point oriented toward the Atlantic horizon, a luminous element that acts as a reinterpretation of the traditional lighthouse, and a series of designed spaces including a gallery, a temporary shelter, and a contemplation area.
The Site
Last Light will be located southeast of the historic Cape St. Vincent Lighthouse in Sagres, Portugal, facing the Atlantic Ocean, on an area of approximately 2,430 square meters.
