The Summer Palace was built in 1750. Known as the Royal Garden Museum, it is the largest and best-preserved imperial palace. The Summer Palace is a continuation of traditional Chinese culture, embodies the diverse characteristics of garden culture, court culture, religious culture, drama culture, canal culture and other cultures. It is the crystallization of garden art of the harmonious coexistence of multiple cultures in ancient China.
The Summer Palace represented the highest standard of living at that time and was a symbol ofgood life in ancient times. If the Forbidden City is a symbol of imperial power, the Summer Palace is more focused on life. From cultural and creative development combining modern aestheticswith inheritance of traditional aesthetics, to unconventional cross-border cooperation, the Summer Palace integrates Qing Dynasty court culture with modern design and gradually becomes a new generation of phenomenon-level IP.
The Summer Palace has moved to Yanjing as its capital since 1151 AD. It was not until 1750 that Emperor Qianlong rebuilt and expanded on a large scale to celebrate his mother#s birthday. The Emperor Qianlong named it Qingyi Garden, which was composed of Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake, surrounded by walls. In 1860, Qingyi Garden was burned down by the British and French forces. After passing through the desolate and lonely twenty-six spring and autumn, in 1888, Empress Dowager Cixi embezzled more than 30 million taels of silver from the office of the navy to rebuild it. It was renamed the Summer Palace with the meaning of prolong life joyfully . It was destroyed by the Allied Forces of the Eight Nations in 1900 and rebuilt in 1902, which is the existing scale.

The“Millennial Culture•Splendid China” traditional aesthetics design competition intends to enhance the cultural identity and self-confidence of Chinese youth, promote the excellent traditional Chinese aesthetics and culture, increase the confidence of Chinese youth in cultural thoughts and spirituality. The purpose of the competition is to upgrade its mission, the proposal is to inherit the roots, and face the future. The prosperity of the youth leads to the prosperity of the country, and the strong youth makes the country strong. From the perspective of young people, tell the story of the traditional aesthetics of the Summer Palace and tell the story of China. A nation will prosper only when its young people thrive. The competition hopes to tell the story of the traditional aesthetics of the Summer Palace and the story of China from the perspective of young people.
A. Cultural and creative products
This Special Proposition intends to center on the unique cultural resources of the Summer Palace, create the unique cultural symbols and cultural creation system of the Summer Palace, transform the cultural assets of the Summer Palace into Royal IP, integrate scenery and art, creativity and practicality, then devising creative products with stories,quality, design and in line with modern life aesthetics.
1. The design work must dig deeply into the cultural connotation of the Summer Palace, reflect the cultural elements and the story behind it, and be endowed with innovation, practicality, aesthetics, marketability, and environmental protection while showing traditional culture;
2. The form of expression, subject matter, and craft materials of the design works are not limited, and serialized products are encouraged to participate in the competition.
B. Virtual Image
We hope to have anempathetic IP image, which must berelated to the Summer Palace culture. Itshould be a unique and interesting IP image, representing inclusiveness and diversity. Please use yourimaginationas much as possible to makethe design looks rich and interesting. Don’t forget to giveit a resounding name.
a. Thevirtual image should be creative and innovative, with coordinated colors, and full of artistic imagination;
b. Thevirtual imagehas no limitation to gender,but must have character personality and audience positioning;
c. Thevirtual image must have the malleability of expressions, comics, micro-videos, peripheral production, toys, models, authorized goods, etc., and it should have brand marketing value, and be suitable for production and application on various carriers;
d. There is no limit to creative methods, including but not limited to graphic patterns, illustrations, comics and other types. At the same time, please provide necessary text descriptions for the work, such as name and gender, work creation ideas or design descriptions, etc.
e. Participants need to draw three views of the brand image, including front, side, and back, and design three or more actions or expressions and cross-dress skins that can express the characteristics of the image;
f. All winners mustprovidevector filesof the entriesto the organizing committee.
C. Fashion Pattern
At least one set of work is required. It should be original work, related to the theme and belong to textiles, printing or other related fields, printed on carriers such as silk scarves, clothing, and soft materials.The entry should be submitted in jpg. or tif. format, and the resolution should not be less than 300dpi, with colors in CMYK format.
Any words, patterns, or marks related to the names and units of the participants and symbols that have nothing to do with the design plan shall not appear in the works. Those that do not meet the requirements will be regarded as invalid works and will be disqualified.
D. Fashion Design
On thetheme ofSummer Palace culture, please design a new style of national fashion clothing that can show thespirit of contemporary young people, interpret traditional Chinese aesthetics with practical actions, and show the world Chinese traditional culture with stylish artistry.
a. Entries need to be designedon the theme of theCompetition, and thetarget groups are fashionable young people;
b. Entries should be unique design, focusing on the perfect combination of practicality and artistry;
c.Beautiful shape, fine production, the color, appropriate use of fabrics and matching ofaccessories.
d. There is no type requirement for design works. At least 3 sets of clothing are required, on an identical theme, either creative fashion design or ready-to-wear design. One digital sketch or photograph must be submitted for registration.
Please take the traditional cultural heritage of the Summer Palace as guidance, give full play to your creative design potential, andmeanwhile focus on the combination with fashion, create a fashionable national trend style, and inject new fashion concepts into traditional aesthetics.
